Your Pre-Test in Tullamore?

Correct driver training will increase your chances of a first time pass, remember the adage "fail to prepare, prepare to fail"... Approaching the driving test should be treated as you would approach to any other exam, prepare and practice. Proper preparation means approaching the driving test with confidence and awareness of knowing what the tester will be looking for, e.g. primary and secondary controls, the rules of the road, driving standards, correct driving practices and procedures, etc,.

Your Test Date
On the day of the test you should arrive at your chosen test centre in plenty of time, remember If you’re late, you cannot take your test and you will lose your fee. Your tester will check that your learner permit is in date and is valid, that it's yours and not someone else’s by checking the image on your licence. Also that it is for the correct category of vehicle in which you are being tested. You will be asked to confirm that the vehicle insurance cover in place and is adequate and that your vehicle is in a roadworthy condition.

Preparing for Your Driving Test
Always make sure that the vehicle you present at your test meets the requirements for the category of vehicle for that test prior to the test date, these vehicle requirements will be provided to you with your driving test notification, including that display valid and in date vehicle tax, insurance, NCT (if required), You will also need to ensure that the vehicle being presented is suitable and acceptable.Your driving test will be straight forward and will last between 25 and 45 minutes.

The Driving Test is Split Into Two Parts.
An oral test and a practical test, the oral part will test your knowledge of the rules of the road, road signs and markings.
  • The practical part of the test will test your knowledge and ability in a number of areas. Technical checks, including tyres, lights, oil levels.
  • In-car checks – including seat and mirror adjustments.
  • Secondary controls – including windscreen washers, wipers, lights, etc.
Your driving will be assessed in many of the following situations:
  • Moving off
  • Driving in traffic
  • Slowing down & stopping 
  • Reversing around a corner
  • Turnabout, to face in the opposite direction
  • Starting on a hill
  • Road positioning
  • Meeting, overtaking and passing
  • Anticipation and observation etc,.

    Automatic / Hybrid Car Driving Test
    If you take and pass your test in an automatic or hybrid vehicle, your driving licence will only allow you to drive an automatic vehicle. You would need to take and pass another driving test in a manual vehicle to be qualified to drive a manual vehicle.

    Always ensure that you book lessons well in advance and as soon as you get your driving test appointment for the hire of the vehicle, if it is to be used for the driving test to ensure availability, however, please be advised that terms and conditions apply.
